The purpose of real estate inspection is primarily to determine any problems with a piece of property prior to it being sold. A prospective buyer hires an inspector to thoroughly evaluate the property and point out any problems or potential problems. Often the buyer will use this inspection report to request repairs be made prior to the final sale. Real estate inspectors are generally licensed by the individual states.
