Joining the US Army or Air Force National Guard is a good way to serve your country, but recruits should get all of the information that they need to make educated decisions about whether they want to join the National Guard instead of another military branch like the Navy or Marines. Many civilians choose to join the Army National Guard because the troops are not usually deployed to active duty overseas. Instead, their drills typically focus on armory protection, state and national security, and other domestic services. The layout of this organization allows some recruits to join on a reserve basis.
